The Way to Have Effective Communication in Workplace – I

Communication is always important for ones to live as nobody can live alone in the world, even in community. Since we were born, it seem like communication come to our life when we were 2 -3 years, when child can make a first word to mom ‘mommy’. And after that time, almost all of day and nigh, it sound like we would like to talk about anything with any people until now.

 

When we grow up until it is time to earn income by ourselves, it is sure that communication pay important role in our working much more than when we just communicate with friend at the school or with our family. One reason why we need to learn how to have effective communication is that too often we take “communication” for granted. After all, we know how to talk to people, right?

When it come to business field people always seem to say that communication in workplaces is a significant problem. In organization surveys, there are many employees often say that no one ever tells them anything or listens to them. At the same time, managers say in reply that they seem never to stop communicating with employees on important matters. Oh! Why problems still arise? And how to prevent the same problem caused by ineffective communication to be occurred again?

Since many people in business were agree that communication is crucial for working and ineffective communication can cause problem and reduce quantity and quality of outcome, the way to have good communication become firstly issue those are seeking for. However, before learning how to make good communication, it is necessary to know first that having poor communication or perceptions of poor communication can be directly linked to increased operating costs and reduced efficiency because of;

  • employee dissatisfaction
  • lack of understanding of business strategy
  • absenteeism
  • lack of common direction
  • lower productivity of people
  • employee turnover

In most cases, when people criticized communication in their workplace, the reason those often tell for this situation is communication is bad or they are never given enough information. Such criticisms are hard to respond to and do not exactly identify, especially what the problem is with communication. This is why there is noting changed about the way communication is delivered and then the same problem will happen again in the next time. And when there is nothing really wrong or that nothing can be done, the other reaction is to just to do more of what is already being done – thereby worsening the problem.

So, what need to be done in order to solve directly ineffective communication?

It is important to understand that communication is more than simply talking to people or giving information. The reasons why communication may not be effective are a number.  In order to make changes to address the wrong cause of the breakdown will so that an outcome can be greatly improved, there are things to know and rectify.
