Difference between Laptop and Netbook

I believe that almost all of us know well what is laptop, but I’m not sure that we all have known what netbook is. And if we don’t know the definition of netbook, then how can we know if these two devices are different. A laptop - also called a notebook is a computer which has been designed to be made portable, featuring a screen hinged to a keyboard. For portable power, laptop will come together with a battery and for input, touchpad is provided instead of a mouse.

These ideas further still are taken in Mini laptops which known as netbooks, subnotebooks or ultraportables, creating a new market above handheld computers, smartphones and personal digital assistants. Obviously, these netbooks are smaller size and weight, which are pretty similar to the average diary, as well as costing less than a standard laptop. The last one is sound great that why mini laptop nowadays is more popular among computer users. However, mini laptops are not as powerful as bigger notebook computers, and lack the power for big, demanding programs as well as an optical disc drive; therefore there is no CDs or DVDs. Connectivity is a central focus for netbooks and internet downloads are quickly catching up on hard media products, so perhaps it is not such a loss.

In short explanation, the difference between laptop and netbook is a netbook is smaller, lighter, cheaper (on the whole) and simpler. New mini laptops are expected to sell in the region of 5.2 million units and have planned to increase up to 50 million by 2012 - a ten fold growth. Whether or not subnotebooks will cannibalize the laptop market, industry analysts are torn, and some suggesting that a mere 10% market share will be taken. During down economic when people will always look for cheaper products, and because of cheaper price that mini laptops are provide, perhaps there is a big market after all.

However, these netbooks can not end up the period of standard laptops yet. This is because they will be limited by battery size, processing power and storage space, although they can perform dozens of tasks to identical or similar standard of larger computers. Apart form these facts, people when using a computer over a prolonged period of time would make sense to use a bigger screen and a faster processor of a desktop replacement laptop or a PC, particularly for demanding programs’ such as games. Likewise, price of standard laptops are available in the same range, not far from the price of netbooks, so some industry analysts to believe that the consumer focus will be on functionality and not merely size and weight.

Although the difference between laptops and netbooks may seem very little, but there is certainly space for both to function. No matter which one you choose – laptop or netbook, make sure you get one which can support you most and fit your life need. Sometimes, price, weight, or size is not a matter.
