If you like to make your favorite coffee cup at home rather than buying a finish cup from a coffee shop or the corner, you may probably have time to shop a coffee bean in a supermarket. Then, how many types of coffee beans there? It may be around 20 to 30 different types of coffee beans showing on its shelving, and they make you confuse what the best one you should to buy, right? In order to get a perfect coffee cup offered by the good coffee bean you have chose, it is a must to learn how many types of coffee beans and what are the different between them.
Actually, coffee beans can be classified in two main types. But, what make you confuse is about the grading and brands of it. This is why you see 20 – 30 different types of coffee beans in the shelf. There are only 2 varieties of the beans and the rest are more of the grading and brands of it.
Among two types of coffee beans, the first one is Coffea Arabica - the one that is highly favored. Coffea Arabica is the first choice of people in the world and it make up 70% of the world consumption. Due to its unique growing conditions, Coffea Arabica is also much more costly than the other one. To grow these plants, an agriculturist would need at altitude of at least a thousand meter and the temperature can not go beyond 20 degree Celsius.
On the other hand, Coffea Canephora (most of us know it by the name Robusta) - second type of coffee that makes up the 30% of the coffee consumption can be thrived in temperature as high as 27 degree Celsius and on almost any grounds. The reason that why most people do not accept Coffea Canephora as their first choice like the first type is because they do not like the bitterness that is associated with this type of beans. Coffea Canephora is rarely sold by itself. Processed or canned coffee that does not have a strong focus on the flavor of the beans is only genre of products that has these beans by itself. Coffea Canephora is also use as fillers for Arabica beans to make it affordable to consumers as pure Coffea Arabica coffee usually come in higher price.
You may have seen the Blue Mountains, Kenya AA or the Kona coffee in supermarket, what about them? Actually, all are Arabica beans, but they are prized for the locality which they are being grown in. This is seemed like the range of type of coffee bean is extended.
Now you might be cleared more about type of coffee beans. So, from now when choosing coffee beans would be your favorite one, what you need to look at is ingredient, not a big name of its brand stated on the package. However, it is possible to pay attention on brand more if you are looking for brands of beans that come with its unique taste profile.
