Fluid Retention in Legs and Ankles

Fluid retention in the legs and ankles is the most common type of edema. The cause of retention can be developed by an unbalance diet, insufficient exercise, bad circulation, or a combination of all of these. It is difficult to avoid getting this type of fluid retention, especially if you are on your feet almost entire day whether as you are standing, walking, or running. So, it is very important to find little times to slow down and put your feet up if you do not want to cope with this health problem. To far away from fluid retention in legs and ankles, apart from keeping yourself with healthy diet, there are another ways to help alleviate excess fluid retention in your legs and ankles.

 

Avoid standing or sitting for long period of time through day: - The restrict circulation and excessive fluid retention can be caused by taking extensive amounts of time to stand or sitting in one place. If you need to take long hours in front of the room to lecture your student, or sitting at the desk to complete your tasks, try to take a break every hour or to walk around to allow the blood flowing again. But, if it is impossible to do like these as when you are in truck, you can try regularly flexing various muscle groups at regular intervals to help the circulation.

 

Elevate your feet: - When you have excess fluid retention in your legs, what you can do is try to prop your feet up above the level of your heart at least for 10-30 minutes once a day. Also, take five minutes to lay flat on the floor and stretch your legs up against a wall and relax. This is help in preventing overextension of the leg muscles. Leg wedges are help to keep your feet and legs properly elevated while you sleep over the night.

 

Do not keep your feet with quite fit shoes: - Do not stand with the fit shoes which is hurt your feet although it is your favorite pair of shoes. Sore feet are likely causing circulation problems.

 

Massage: - Gently massaging your calves, ankles and feet every night before going to the bed will help you to sleep more comfortably as well as further stimulate circulation that will aid in fluid regulation too.

 

Choose specific socks or hose: - Nowadays, it is possible to encourage your healthy with some socks or hose that are specifically designed to promote good circulation. The water retention issues are related to diabetes, so you can find that these products are typically marketed to diabetics, and can be found easily in many discount or clothing stores.

Exercise: - Performing exercise regularly will help to keep your body with normal functions. Circulation and your body’s ability to regulate fluids will get severely affect because of the lacking of exercise. And when circulation is weak, fluids often pool in hands, legs, ankles, and other parts of the body.

Drink plenty of water: - When body does not have enough coming in fluid, it can not properly regulate one. To ensure your body is properly hydrated, get your body to intake at least eight cup of water a day.
