One thing a lot of authors misunderstand about their work is they think they need to go through the registration process for getting copyright protection of their work. Actually, the protection of any work or idea is attached since the authors create unique work. Certainly that file a registration for copyright you will get many benefits such as ability to elects statutory damages, access to federal courts and getting attorney fees in an infringement case. However, you should not to assume that you do not have copyright protection in your work without taking filed a registration.
Copyright protection is attached when you create the work that is an original work. When you are writing, copyright protection is attached since you write down on a paper or type. After copyright protection of your work was attached even though you file a registration or not and your work was been copy by someone else without any pay or permission of you, it not mean your copyright protection was fail.
First thing you should to know that an idea is not protect by Copyright Law until you place it in a tangible medium of expression. So, if you tell your idea to someone else it means your idea is free to use by anybody. Idea can be protect by Patent protection in appropriate cases and confidentiality agreements. Copyright Law will cover only resistance copying or republishing substantially the work that you create but, it not resists the idea behind the work. For example, mobile phone create by one company can be protect by Copyright Law but, the idea to create mobile phone is not. The other example is article writing, if you write some article and posted it on the website; everybody can read your writing and can create their own article with the same idea of your writing but, they can not copy your article to use as their own writing if you do not allow them to do like that. However, it not is an infringement if they use your article while taking active links to your website. So, if they not use the active links when they publish your article, they are violating the copyright to your article.
If your idea or your work was create base on complication and spend a long time to complete it, the best way to protect your work or idea is take a copyright registration. It very bad if you spend more and more time with your smart brain but, the other steal your work to make money without any compensation for you.
