The Knowledge about Hamster Habitats

The country of origin of hamster is Syria as the record has shown that hamsters were discovered in the Syrian Desert 70 years ago. Then, hamster becomes a popular pet that wide numbers of people around the world are appreciate to adopt hamster in their homes. The reason that why those people is likely to nature hamster is because hamster has friendly nature and adaptability.

 

Many people are likely to spend time with their hamsters, especially children. Many times they take hamsters along with them whether anywhere they go. Because of its small size, so they can put hamster in the pocket of their wearing shirt or sometime they put a small pet on their shoulder when they go to the place nearby their home.

 

However, hamsters require specific habitat like a human will need to have home to stay. When it comes to providing a habitat for hamsters, what you should to know is hamster do not like to live in the small area all day all nigh. Imagine if you need to live in a room with 2 X 2 m2 at all time. So, the cage for hamster should be as big as possible, the space should be at least 2 square feet as hamster will need to spend most of its time in the cages. Hamster like to play and spend time with a toy or some items such as a wheel, so apart from comfortable that should be provided in the cage for hamsters, you need to make a habitat of hamster to be an interesting place they would like to live in too by placing a toy like a wheel and a bar inside. Take note that the spacing between bars should be a minimum of ½ an inch as any larger. Another thing can be used for habitat of hamster is aquariums. But, aquariums will be used in habitat should be well ventilated and have screen lid. On the other hand, the commercialized colorful plastic cages have poor ventilation and difficulty to clean, so they should not use for habitat of hamster.

 

For bedding of hamster, the bed can be made from recycled paper materials or woods which do not contain scents. Also, aspen is suitable as well. Avoid using cedar and pining shavings in bedding for hamster as these are toxic to animals. Similarly, you should not prepare bed for your little pet by choosing one that are made from sawdust, corn cob, chlorophyll, and cat litter. These make poor beddings as well.  

 

In the cage, you need to prepare the private area for hamsters where they can feel secure. Empty oatmeal cans or tissue boxes can give your hamster this function. Another thing to provide in cage is something that allow hamster to nibble at. Be careful to not place any soft plastics in the environment as hamster is most likely try to ingest its home. Also, keep the commercial fluff away from the cage as it has the potential to block intestines if it is swallowed by your hamster.
