What to Avoid To Gain Respect In Your Leadership?
For a lot of people, it is difficult to become a leader as they need to work for long years before. But, the sad thing is those people can not keep their leadership for several years they should be as they do not know actually what to think, what to do and when, etc during they are being as a leader.
According to this fact, we can say that while become a leader is difficult thing, to maintain leadership is difficult more.
There are a lot of things to do while being on leadership so that you can keep your level for a long time during your working time. Those things I talk to include gaining respect of those that you lead. The reason behind is because the respect that people have on you will help you to work with them easier. However, gaining respect from a sufficiently large pool of people in any organization is extremely challenging. Below are things many leaders do that lead to them not being respected by people around, and how to avoid making these mistakes?
Mistake 1: Promises what you can not deliver on. There are many leaders who often make promise to their people and then they can not do what they have said no matter what reason is. After such a two to three times you tell your people that you will give them something in return if they can complete the hard project early and perfect but there is nothing provided them as you said when they can do what you want, they will not trust and respect on you anymore. So, make sure you can do what you promise them.
Mistake 2: Being overpowering. Of course you have power to command and do something in the area of leadership, but it should be the exception rather than the rule. No one likes someone who uses their position power to drive things through. Instead, if you can hold heart of your people, everything you want would be completed without using your power. So, use your position power scarcely.
Mistake 3: Speak only. Do you like someone who just telling rather than doing? Same your people always see if you just only speak but never get involving. It is true that the final decision has to be made by the person in charge that is you, but your people probably feel less reluctant to get behind a decision if it feels like they have had no chance to contribute their views and they feel like you let them going alone through the project. So, make sure you listen effectively to the range of views give by your people, and join with them on the jobs.
Mistake 4: Self preservation. As you are a leader, it does not mean you always right and everything you think and do is the best things. Good leaders must not focus on preserving their position, instead on getting results through the contribution of people.
These are some mistakes leaders shout avoid to make so they can gain more respect during their leadership period.
